Top 5 Things to do in Wilmington, North Carolina

Wilmington, North Carolina

Wilmington, North Carolina was on the top of my list of places to stop in on our way down to Florida based solely on the fact that my favorite tv show ever was filmed there… If you’re thinking I’m talking about One Tree Hill, then you are absolutely correct. I just had to see where all of my favorite fictional characters grew up, so my Mom and I set off on the ultimate self- guided, One Tree Hill tour of Wilmington.

Little did I know I’d fall in love with this cute coastal town.

Here are five things to do in Wilmington, NC.

1. Dine in one of the waterfront restaurants

We ate lunch at the Riverboat Landing Restaurant and sat in one of those little balconies overlooking the water. It was so pretty and the food was delicious. We shared the hummus plate and chicken salad sandwich while sipping on some fresh Arnold Palmers.

2. Take a stroll down the Riverwalk

The Riverwalk is gorgeous. It’s got the charm of a little southern town and the fact that its right on the river makes it the perfect spot to just sit on a bench and take it all in. (Plus the burning boat scenes (and many others) from One Tree Hill were filmed over here…)

3. Visit the USS North Carolina Battleship

Take a step into history while visiting the famous WWII battleship. The USS North Carolina acts as a memorial to the 10,000 North Carolinians who died during World War II. Learn about some of these men while you visit the ship.

4. Visit fan-favorite locations from TV shows like One Tree Hill and Dawson’s Creek

Wilmington has been called the Hollywood of the East by many people. It has been the longtime sets for many popular tv shows. Just by driving through this city you can point out the locations you’ve seen on your television. Plus, some websites will give you addresses for popular filming sites (OTH, Dawson’s Creek).

Wrightsville Beach is just down the road from Wilmington. So take a drive over there and enjoy a relaxing day near the crystal blue waters.
