Surviving the Full Moon Party

We came, we saw, we conquered….well mostly.  Surviving the Full Moon Party wasn’t as hard as we had anticipated. I’m glad we went and did it, but we won’t be heading there again anytime soon.

Surviving The Full Moon Party

We headed to the March 2016 Full Moon Party as a celebration of finishing our semester of teaching. And we wanted to kick off our travels. We stayed on Koh Samui and took the hour-long ferry ride over to Haad Rin Pier on Koh Phangan. We did this on the night of the famous Full Moon Party. (Keep in mind that if you do this, you WILL be sleeping on the beach. Or you’ll be pulling an all-nighter. The first ferry back to Samui isn’t until 7:30 AM…)

We stayed at Free House Bungalows on Bophut Beach in Koh Samui. We were walking distance from Fisherman’s Village and a short taxi ride to Big Buddha Pier where we hopped onto our ferry. The ferry tickets were 200 baht each way (400 RT). If you feel like you can’t make it until 7:30 AM, you CAN pay A LOT MORE money to take a speedboat back in the middle of the night.

We headed over on the 6:30 PM ferry and got there around 7:30 which was perfect timing. You have to pay a 100 baht entrance fee when coming in from the Haad Rin Pier. Afterward, we bought some paint and found a restaurant to eat dinner at. We hung out there for awhile putting body paint all over ourselves after we ate. You’ll probably spend close to 200 baht on dinner as everything in the area of the Full Moon Party is expensive.

Partying All Night Long

Start at 7-11 and buy some beers there for half the price you would find them at a bar (about 140 baht for a two pack of the big bottle). The bucket I bought cost about 300 baht and I drank it by myself over several hours. There are tons of food stands scattered around the beach that offer you some drunk eats all night long for some decent prices. The bathroom will cost you about 20 – 50 baht.

Tons of people, from all around the world, attend the Full Moon Party every month, so you’re bound to meet a lot of new people. You’ll dance, catch the sunrise and just have a really fun time. Stay away from the water cause it ends up being used as a toilet for several people all night long…

Other than that, drink TONS of water, dance until you can’t dance anymore and have the time of your life!
