Three Things You Can’t Miss In New York City

can't miss things in new york city

I was born and raised in New York. And while many “New Yorkers” will call me bridge and tunnel because I lived in Westchester, I still consider myself a local. I spent most of my life going back and forth into New York City with my family and I even considered moving there after I graduated college. But, I ultimately decided that city life was not for me. Now I try to head back there about twice a year to visit friends and family, and of course some of my favorite sites. And there are a lot of things you can’t miss in New York City. And while some of them are definitely touristy, there are also some things that are just fun!

Find The Best Murals

Hi. My name is Taylor Fuller and I am addicted to finding murals in every city I go to. Odds are, if you’ve been to this blog before, than you know that I have a thing for colorful things. And murals can be found in most cities if you know where to look. Lucky for you, I’m in the midst of putting together a guide to the best NYC murals (and while you’re at it, check out the most Instagrammable places or how to have the perfect weekend in the city). They’re scattered along the LES and all over Brooklyn, and top my list of things you can’t miss in New York City.

Visit The Top Of The Rock

Yes, this activity would probably be filed under touristy things to do in Manhattan, but it’s on my list because the view is honestly one of my all time favorites. Seriously, there’s just something about peering downtown towards the Empire State Building and then turning around and catching a glimpse of Central Park.

Visit The Empire State Building

Okay, so this is definitely touristy. But, I’ve got to be honest with you, I hadn’t done this since I was a kid. I was staying only a block away from the iconic structure. And I knew that I just had to go up. So one night, after dinner and drinks I went to the top. And when we got up, I took in some absolutely stunning views of New York City lit up. And while it didn’t top the view from the Top of The Rock, it was definitely worth the wait.

Okay, okay, most of these are touristy…and I call myself a local…

There are so many things you can’t miss in New York City. I will admit it, a lot of them do fall under the touristy category. And you know what, that’s okay. Because I consider myself a local, I never wanted to visit these places. (You won’t ever be able to get me to go to Times Square willingly though). There are some things that you have to see for yourself and as a New Yorker, I sometimes take them for granted. Thankfully during my trip to New York City I was able to work with nycgo and they set me up with a city pass The city pass gives you the opportunity to visit six major tourist destinations in New York. It’s totally worth it because you don’t have to reserve spots ahead of time. Plus, you can skip a lot of lines!

I live not too far away from New York and have been dying to visit! I’d love to go in the fall to see all of the leaves change colour. These photos are gorgeous, the street art would be awesome to see!
