Phones Are Good: Staying Connected With Three UK

what to know before moving to london

Phones are good. You could argue that that’s not true, with average daily screen times among millennials ringing in at 205 minutes. But, they are good. Phones help people stay connected, no matter where in the world they may be. And I can speak first hand to that. I moved abroad nearly two years ago now (how time flies). I can honestly say that my phone is my lifeline when it comes to keeping in touch with my family and friends who live an ocean away. During that time, I’ve relied heavily on my phone service with Three UK. Thankfully staying connected with Three UK is super easy.

Staying Connected With Three UK

When I first moved over to London from America, one of the first things I needed to do was pick a phone service. I needed to choose one that was reliable, no matter where I was in the world. For me, the obvious choice was Three. So upon arrival, I headed into a Three store. I picked up a SIM card, and then immediately texted my friends and family my new UK phone number. Within minutes I was connected to the people I love around the world.

Why Phones Are Good

While my phone is a pretty important part of my overall business, I enjoy using it the most when I’m speaking with my family. In fact, when people find out that I speak to my Mom almost daily, they think that’s crazy. But, because I live about 4000 miles away from my Mom, I like to check in with her, even if it’s only for a couple of minutes. We chat about “real life” problems and we chat about our favorite TV shows. I talk to her from my phone while at home, in Central London, or even traveling around the world.

I love that in most of the places I visit, I don’t have to switch my SIM card out in order to stay connected. In fact, staying connected with Three UK is so easy because they have Go Roam. That means that you can roam free of charge in 71 destinations around the world. So that means that I can discuss the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy or This is Us if I’m in London or if I’m in Poland or France or even Vietnam.

Don’t you find that spectacular? Seriously, think about it.

I met a woman on my flight back from Poland a few weeks ago and she was saying that she has fond memories of when she was backpacking around the world when she was in her early twenties. She spoke about how she would be lucky to find an Internet cafe with working internet once a week, depending on which country she was in. She said that the fact that all she needs to do now is make sure her cell phone works in the country she’s in and she can speak to her daughter whenever she wants, is something that has changed travel for her.

Times Have Changed… For the Better

Staying connected with Three UK allows me to share my travels with the people I love, while I’m in a new place. I don’t have to wait to show them where I am. I can snap a photo and send it to them, I can record a voice note of the sounds around me, I can take a video and share the destination with them immediately. Like that woman I met on my flight, your phone can change travel for you in a positive way.

You could argue all day about how people are addicted to their phones and they don’t allow you to enjoy the moment, but it’s just not true. It’s time to stop thinking about the bad “stuff” that surrounds phones. Instead, focus on the good. Focus on the ability to maintain your friendships with people you only see once a year. And focus on that two minute phone call with a loved one that you wanted to quickly check in on or  the 45 minute phone call with your best friend where you spent the entire time laughing. Focus on the connections your phone has helped you stay on top of. Because at the end of the day, your friends and family are the things that matter the most in this world.

This is a paid partnership article with Three, a mobile phone supplier in the UK as part of their Phones Are Good Campaign. Three believe that phones have been getting too hard a time recently. Far from bringing the end to humanity, they think they bring people together. Think about it. These pocket rockets help us plan our social life, find love, build relations, run businesses and make memories. They also keep us connected on the go, including 71 destinations worldwide with Three’s Go Roam proposition.
