Exploring Bela Krajina With Big Berry

Bela Krajina

I had such a great time staying at Big Berry in Bela Krajina, Slovenia. It was such a treat to do something completely different than I’m used to. I traded in the beaches and cities for the countryside and cornfields. And I’m so glad that I did. Because exploring Bela Krajina With Big Berry was a really great experience.

I learned all about the region, agrotourism, and met some really wonderful local people who elevated my experience in the area.

Exploring Bela Krajina With Big Berry

One of my favorite things to do while traveling is interact with locals. And Big Berry really gets that. They make it easy for you to meet people who were born and raised in the area and make their living on the land or by creating products and selling them locally. I can’t stress enough how cool it was. So, check out some of these experiences if you decided to visit Big Berry on your next summer holiday!

DOMAČIJA KUZMA

Bela Krajina

Visit this homestay to take a look at a very old flour mill. You’ll hear about the process and history that surrounds the castle and the Grajski mlin (flour mill). You’ll get to see how it actually works, and then you can walk around the gorgeous riverfront property. And if it’s a specially hot day, I suggest taking a dip!

IZLETNIŠKA KMETIJA ZUPANČIČ

Bela Krajina

This was probably my favorite homestay visit during my stay at Big Berry. I had the most delicious dinner here – fresh fish, polenta, and veggies. We shared some Slovenian wine and learned about how the local products are used to cook and live. It was a real farm to table experience!

KZ Metlika Cellar

Bela Krajina

I’m a huge wine drinker. I love to taste different kinds and I believe it’s important to try locally made whenever possible. Metlika Cellar has over 110,000 grapevines and buys grapes from the local people when needed. It produces nearly 750,000 liters of a wine a year! And the wine was actually really tasty (and won’t cost you an arm and a leg).

Župnca

Another true farm to table experience! Enjoy a traditional Slovenian dinner (and lots of wine)! The tomatoes are so tasty and everything is so fresh. You’ll enjoy talking with the host so much that you won’t realize that hours have passed!

Other Things Of Note!

Visit The Natural Sites

Bela Krajina

One of the most beautiful things that we visited was a natural spring. Apparently the water is freezing, so I chose not to take a dip. However, the view is absolutely stunning and the color of the water is unreal!

Visit The Natural Park Lahinja

If it isn’t 1000 degrees when you visit Slovenia, I suggest hiking this Natural Park. If it is, like it was when we were there, drive instead! We visited an old church and a natural spring because of time restrictions. But, there are several other things you can check out like a castle or marsh.

Travel Colorfully was a welcomed guest of Big Berry, but as always all opinions are my own!
