Six Things To Do In Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur ended up being a really cool place for relaxing. I wasn’t expecting that since usually cities mean a lot of running around, trying to fit everything in. But, my friend and I decided that we wanted to take it easy during our time there.

While we didn’t actually do a ton in Kuala Lumpur, the things we did do ended up being really cool. We wandered around, ate delicious food, went out for drinks, and took in some incredible views.

Here are Six things do in Kuala Lumpur

Be A Little Fancy

Kuala Lumpur

We decided to stay in a nicer hotel. We checked into The Face Suites. It was in a perfect location (walking distance from most of the major sights), which is key for me. We had our own little suite, complete with a living room, gorgeous bathroom, kitchen and office. But, perhaps the best part was the rooftop pool, with the most epic view of the Petronas Towers. It was perfect to soak up some sun and relax and unwind.

The great part about Southeast Asia and especially Malaysia is that you can stay in a very nice hotel for way less than you would in America. So, why not treat yourself?

Eat Delicious Food

Malaysia has some really delicious food. We had some awesome meals (and some western food too). Perhaps my favorite meal that I had in Kuala Lumpur was near Petaling Street. We had delicious fried rice, noodles and satay. We were also super lucky because my Dad has a good friend who is from Malaysia. He ended up reaching out to his friend and we set up a home cooked meal at their home right outside KL. It was incredible. I love stepping out of the touristy spots and being able to experience something a bit more real.

See The Petronas Towers and KLCC Park

Kuala Lumpur

So, we learned the hard way– if you want to go up the Petronas Towers buy tickets in advance! Maybe it was because we were there on a Saturday, but the tickets for the day were all sold out before 1 PM. So instead we walked around the KLCC park and grabbed a drink. We watched the fountains and people watched. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Explore The Batu Caves

Kuala Lumpur

The Batu Caves were one of the coolest things we saw during our time in KL. It’s just incredible to me that something so large is so close to the city. It took us about 20 minutes to get there (we took an Uber – it was super cheap). Once we were there we made our way up the 272 steps to the top. We dogged monkeys who were harassing people and stepped into the massive caves. Unfortunately when we visited they were restoring part of the caves so we couldn’t see much, but it was still so cool.

Go To An Awesome Rooftop

Kuala Lumpur

This was the coolest thing ever. We went to a rooftop on a Helipad. It’s called Heli Lounge Bar and I suggest you arrive there at 5PM. When you get there you’ll have to order a drink at the lounge before you’re allowed access to the Helipad. Yuu’ll be allowed up at 6PM. We stayed for hours. We had drinks, watched the sunset, took in the view and listened to a little bit of music before we had to head to the airport. Such a great night.

Have A Night Out On Changkat Bukit Bintang

Okay, I won’t lie. It’s a little bit of a weird mix on this street in terms of age group, but you can still have fun here. There are a ton of drink specials going on and you can spend your night bar hopping and then end up at the club.
