I fell in love with Croatia last weekend. It has been on the top of my bucket list for a really long time now. Ever since I got my job, I knew that the one trip I had to do before I left was to Split, Croatia. Aside from the fact that Game of Thrones was filmed in this city, I knew of its beautiful coastline and had to experience it for myself.

Luckily, I had the opportunity to travel there over Easter Weekend. The weather was bit iffy, but after the first hour in the gorgeous country, I knew that I would have to come back and possibly live there for a month or so.

We arrived in Split on Friday morning and took a walking tour of the city. We visited the newer section and then the old city, where my favorite show was filmed (you rock Khaleesi!). The ruins of the old city were stunning. I would definitely take a stroll through them if you find yourself in Split. We enjoyed lunch at a tiny hostel, sitting outdoors, since the sun decided to come out.

Afterwards, I took some students to go white water rafting. It was incredible driving along the coast, staring into the gorgeous blue sea. We travelled through the mountains to the starting point, and the landscape change was crazy. On our drive we saw mountain climbers, kayakers and more experiencing the outdoor activities that Croatia has to offer.

White water rafting was really fun. We lucked out for the most part with the weather– the sun stayed out for a few hours. We were given wetsuits, split into boats and headed down the Cetina River. The rapids weren’t terrible, the hardest it went to was class 3. So, we were lucky since it was still a bit chilly in the shade, that we only got splashed towards the end of the ride.

That night, we headed to a few bars, The Donkey and F Bar. I headed back early as I was exhausted.

The next day we hopped on a boat from island to island stopping for a BBQ midday. It would have been nice to have had better weather. It was still fun though. When we got back, we went out to the Charlies Backpackers club.
