Socially Distanced Travel and What it Will Look Like

It’s been an incredibly long time since I’ve posted on my blog. I just haven’t been able to find any words that are inspiring during the COVID-19 lockdown. It just didn’t seem like the time to post about pretty destinations and what to do there. But, with the world starting to open up (and my feet getting incredibly itchy and ready for a new adventure), I figured it was time to address it. And by it I mean socially distanced travel and what it will look like.

Before I jump into things, let me be clear here, I am in no means an expert on anything related to socially distanced travel. It will be as new to me as it is to you. However, I believe that it is my responsibility as a travel blogger to share my thoughts on it and what I think it will be like.

Socially Distanced Travel and What it Will Look Like

For some, international travel will be an option this summer. For others, depending on what country you live in, it will not be. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t explore domestically. That means hopping in your car if you have one and exploring places closer to home.

Domestic Travel

If the restrictions in your country don’t allow you to travel internationally, you can always explore your own backyard. I personally would love to travel around the UK a bit more this year since I’m still a little weary of jumping on an airplane. If you’re lucky enough to have your own car, domestic travel will be perfect for you.

This is also the perfect time to go camping (as long as you follow the rules at the campsite when it comes to socially distancing) whether you’re pitching up a tent, renting a caravan, or taking a camper van across Europe. Basically avoiding public transportation when necessary!

International Travel

If the country you live in has lifted its restrictions to not only let you leave and not need to quarantine upon arrival back home, but also welcome tourism, your experiences will be a bit different.

In the UK as of June 8, all people arriving in the UK will have to do a mandatory self-quarantine for 14 days. With people just returning to work after being furloughed, I don’t see a lot of them wanting to take a three week holiday just so they can spend two of those weeks back at home. But, if you are able to do that, there are a few places you can travel to at this point.

Just remember to do your research and follow the rules. Most airlines are going to require you to wear face masks on the plane. Many of them will discontinue food service to minimize interaction with the flight crew and passengers. Airports may make testing mandatory once you land and some will be doing temperature screenings before allowing you through security.

The fact of the matter is that things are going to change for everyone. I am so sick of hearing the phrase, “it’s the new normal,” but it really is and we all just have to get used to it tif we want to continue to explore thee world around us.

Apologies for disappearing for so long but I have tons of content coming to you over the next few weeks and hopefully we can all get traveling and exploring again soon!
