Why Singapore Is More Than A Stopover City

singapore

Many people travel to Singapore on their way to another destination. It’s treated as a stopover city because of the size of the country/city. The Changi Airport is rated as one of the best in the world, and it’s proximity to the city allows people to explore Singapore if they have a long layover. (The airport even offers a tour for travelers).

I was eager to visit, but based off of how expensive/small it is, I decided on spending three days in The Lion City. I traveled there with two of my friends and we decided that we would have more than enough time to see everything in the short amount of time.  And while it was more than enough time to see the top sights, I was pleasantly surprised by how much more Singapore had to offer.

This Is Why Singapore Is More Than Just A Stopover City

The Architecture Is Amazing

Talk about a city with both beautiful, modern buildings and original, historical buildings. Everything here is stunning. From the original, colorful buildings in Chinatown to the famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel, architecture buffs will find everything they’re looking for.

There Are So Many Beautiful Green Spaces

Gardens By The Bay is a gorgeous slice of heaven located in the middle of the busy city. There are several things to do in the area and you can choose between free activities like watching the Super Trees light up (the most insane light show I have ever seen), or pay a little money to visit some of the exhibits (the flower or cloud dome).  Or, you can head to the Botanical Gardens and join the locals on a leisurely stroll.

You Can Take The Subway To The Beach

Sentosa Island is just a short train ride away. It takes about 35 minutes to get to the beach. From there you can visit Universal Studios or you can walk to the southern most point in Southeast Asia. The beach is pretty beautiful over there and you can almost forget that you’re only minutes from the big city.

The Food Is To Die For

There are several Hawker stands around the city that you have to visit. You can eat so many different types of cuisine in Singapore. There is something for everyone: Chinese, India, Thai – the list goes on and on.

The Ex-Pat Lifestyle Is Pretty Great

One of my friends from high school lives in Singapore. So, we had the opportunity to go out with people who have lived there for years. We ended up at Clarke Quay and Boat Quay and we had one of the best nights out that we had during our whole trip.
