A Weekend In Lausanne

Lausanne

If you’re looking for the ultimate city break in Europe, Lausanne is the place to go. Located about an hour from Geneva, Laussane is the perfect location for a quick weekend trip. You get the best of both worlds: a beautiful European city and access to the gorgeous countryside of Switzerland.

A Weekend In Lausanne

Lausanne

Book a flight to Geneva Airport. Upon arrival, head to the train station (it’s connected to the airport and super easy to find) where you can catch a train to Lausanne. And in about an hour you’ll find yourself in the charming city of Lausanne.

Day 1

Check into your hotel! I suggest you book yourself a room at the Royal Savoy. The hotel is really special, very comfortable, and features breathtaking views of both Lake Geneva and Lausanne.

Lausanne

After checking in, it’s time for lunch! A short ride on the subway will take you to Cafe de Grancy. This charming cafe serves up delicious food. I suggest the pasta with chicken, veggies, and mushrooms. It will leave you feeling satisfied (but remember to leave room for dessert).

Speaking of dessert… You can’t travel to Switzerland without tasting some chocolate. And Lausanne is full of chocolate shops. Durig Chocolatier is a short walk from Cafe de Grancy and is definitely worth a visit! I suggest tasting the basil dark chocolate if you’re looking for something refreshing after a savory meal!

Lausanne

So now that you’ve filled your stomach, it’s time to relax back at the Royal Savoy Hotel. Take a few hours to enjoy the spa — there is an outdoor/indoor pool and sauna and steam room for your use.

After you spend some time at the spa and clean up before dinner, head to The Great Escape, an outdoor terrace overlooking the Old Town of Lausanne for a drink. This place will be packed on a really nice night!

When you start to get hungry, it’s time for fondue! La Pinte Bisson is the oldest restaurant in Lausanne and serves up mouthwatering fondue!

Day 2

Lausanne

Rise and shine! It’s time for your second day in Lausanne and it all starts with a visit to the market. The market runs every Saturday and is the perfect place to pick up fresh goods and get a taste of what the community feels like here! This is the perfect place to grab lunch!

After wandering around the market, make your way back to the train station. In just eight minutes you’ll find yourself at the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces. Spend the afternoon hopping around the vineyards, tasting wine.

Lausanne

If you can, plan your trip around Open Cellars weekend, when several wineries open their doors to the public to taste all of their wines. All you do is pay for your wine glass and you can enjoy as much as you want over a two day period.

Once you’ve had enough wine, grab the boat back to Lausanne. The Belle Epoque is a traditional boat that you can ride on Lake Geneva. It’s the perfect way to get back into town!

And once you’ve arrived back in town, you’ve probably worked up quite the appetite. Head to Eat Me for delicious tapa style dishes from around the world!

Day 3

Lausanne

Go for a wander around town! And if you can, plan your weekend around the MIAM Food Festival. During this festival, you can taste food from a ton of different food trucks! My favorite was the Mauritian food!

Travel Colorfully was a welcomed guest of My Lausanne. As always, all opinions are my own.
